Dear CIE-SOCAL members,

On Saturday, 3/29/2014, we held our 4th annual convention & award dinner at Diamond Bar's Diamond Palace Cuisine of India Restaurant.  Over 150 guests were in attendance.  Master of ceremony was Dr. Tony Torng.  CIE-SOCAL President Scarlett Kwong made a 2013 report and introduced the new 2014 Board of Directors.  Keynote speech was provided by Mr. Mike Eng, member of the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustee, on 'Meaning of STEM'.

Followed by awards presentation to our STEM competition winners.  Each student winner received scholarship from CIE-SOCAL and congratulatory certificates from Congressman Ed Royce, Assemblyman Curt Hagman, Supervisor Don Knabe, Walnut Valley Water District, Walnut Valley Unified School District, City of Diamond Bar, City of Walnut and City of Rosemead.

CIE-SOCAL Vice President Dr. Jerry Huang presented information on the 2015 Asian American Engineer of the Year (AAEOY) Award at Los Angeles Airport Marriott.

Entertainment were Mt San Antonio College Robotic club students demonstrating their latest robotic invention and Cal Tech physicist Siying Peng performing Saxophone.

The program wrapped up with silent auction and raffle drawings conducted by newly crowned Miss Diamond Bar Dana Li, who is also a STEM competition winner, and her court of princesses Taylor Kalinowski, Stephanie Alvarez and Vivian Li.

CIE-SOCAL would not have made this event possible without the support of our generous sponsors and friends: MSAC Foundation, IQ Laser Vision, Law Office of Hung Ban Tran, SAT Professionals, The Hsinchu Science Park, Henry Woo Architects, Inc., US Bank, Walnut Valley Water District and many table sponsors from community organizations and individuals.

Additionally, we have to thank all of our dedicated board members and volunteers who spent countless hours for weeks leading up to the event.

Photos taken at the event, by Peter Gao (Caltech), have been uploaded to our Facebook page.

Thanks for coming! We look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Best wishes,
