CIE-SoCal promotes STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) excellence by hosting an annual STEM 5-STAR Challenge focused on presentation and communication skills. The presentation material shall represent a body of STEM work accomplished, by an individual or team, that might be integrated with school supported studies. The final STEM 5-STAR Challenge will consist of a 10-minute presentation followed by Q/A.

The SCAQMD is the air pollution control agency for all of Or-ange County and the urban portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. It is the second most populated urban area in the United States and one of the smoggiest. Because this area’s smog problem is so severe, SCAQMD often finds itself at the forefront of the nation’s emission reduction efforts. This tour program will provide introduction of SCAQMD’s Technology Advancement Program, and tour of the chemistry laboratory as well as advanced clean technologies.
